Reflection on Green Technology Workshop
Hey everyone, welcome to my last blog entry! Today I will be talking about a workshop that I recently carried out and how I found it.
Recently, I took part in giving my first ever workshop to other students. In our class we got put into groups of 5 and we were given a topic. My group was given the task of creating a workshop based on green technology. This was a very interesting topic so we were excited with the challenge ahead. We firstly began by creating a work break down chart and dividing up who would carry out what work. We then got busy and proceeded with planning our 30 minute workshop.
For the workshop my main duty was to create the first activity. Activities in a workshop are vital as you want everyone to interact and pay attention to what is being shown. In this activity I knew that I wanted to get everyone up out of their seats and move around the room. My idea was to have everyone stand in the centre of the room. I then created a slide show of photos based on our topic, green technology. The first set of photos consisted of items that were either renewable or non renewable. If the students thought a photo was renewable they could then move to the left hand side of the room. If the students thought they were non renewable they would move to the right hand side of the room. If the students were split in their decisions I would then ask them why they thought it was renewable/non renewable. I then showed a second set of photos that were either recyclable or non recyclable. This slide show followed the same concept of moving to the left and right hand side of the room.
I enjoyed carrying out my activity and I feel that everyone thoroughly enjoyed being up and moving about. I also enjoyed standing up and doing an interactive presentation with students. Any presentations I had previously carried out were more formal and less interactive. This was a great experience for me to get out of my comfort zone and present and interact with some students from different streams also that I wouldn't know as well as my own class mates from the management stream.
I think our group worked well together for the most part and we manged to get everything done on time. We communicated well and if we had any issues we would address them quickly in order to keep things running smoothly. Although I think our group done well in this workshop I would change a few things next time. I would try to have more variety in speakers talking about green technology itself. As in our group we had one person speak about the whole theory section and this may have gotten boring for everyone listening. We also had a video in our workshop. Next time, I would make this video shorter as I feel like we lost the attention of some people in the room.
So overall, I enjoyed making these blog posts to interact with you all and I am looking forward to the next workshop that I participate in. Would you like to see me back for another blog in the future? Keep your eyes pealed!
Thanks everyone!
great reflection on the workshop experience
